Risk is unavoidable, but how we manage it makes al Risk is unavoidable, but how we manage it makes all the difference. That was the underlying message from the conversation sparked at “Charting the Future of Finance: Strengthening IT Risk Today, Enabling AI Tomorrow”, jointly organised by ISCA and the Singapore Computer Society (SCS), our Professional Accountancy (PA) Hub and MOU partner.

Industry leaders from the public sector, private sector and professional services came together to share refreshing and honest perspectives on how organisations should approach IT risk and AI adoption:

• Mr. Yap Mia Kai, CIO, IRAS, put it plainly: risk is not a cost centre. When managed well, it becomes a strategic advantage.

• Mr. Lim Thian Chin, CRO, GovTech, challenged the compliance-first mindset. Risk management must go beyond checklists, and it requires ownership, accountability, and a culture where everyone plays a part.

• Mr. Daryl Wang, CFO & Enterprise Value, Strategy & Consulting, Accenture, reminded us that while AI can transform finance functions, driving efficiency and productivity, accountability still rests with humans, especially when regulators step in.

The afternoon concluded with an engaging panel discussion moderated by Ms. Lim Yean Sam, Senior Vice-President, Risk and Control, GIC, where discussions moved beyond theory into real-world decision-making and challenges organisations face today.

The takeaway was clear: Risk is not something to eliminate; it is something to understand, manage, and navigate together.
We look forward to more meaningful collaborations with SCS as we continue shaping conversations around risk, technology, and the future of finance.

Advancing ESG advisory capabilities to support bus Advancing ESG advisory capabilities to support businesses

That was the spirit of a three-day Sustainability Apex Programme (SAP) workshop, jointly organised by ISCA and the Law Society of Singapore. The programme brought together practitioners from across disciplines to strengthen their ability to deliver practical and commercially relevant ESG advisory support for SMEs. Learning was put into action through application-based SME case scenarios.

The workshop concluded with a panel on “The Future of ESG Advisory for SMEs”, featuring leaders from KPMG, RSM, CLA Global and Antioch Streams, who shared candid insights on what SMEs really need, the challenges advisors face, and how to build capabilities to deliver real impact.

It was encouraging to see the professional services community come together to learn, collaborate and step up to better support SMEs on their sustainability journeys, because sustainability is not just a buzzword, it is a business advantage.
